The Baum, RochdaleHuge congratulations to Simon and Heidi Crompton of The Baum in Rochdale, which has been named the CAMRA National Pub of the Year for 2012!

The Baum was named the Greater Manchester Pub of the Year last September and thereby qualified for the National competition. In November, CAMRA announced that The Baum was one of four short-listed finalists, including last year’s winner, the Bridge End Inn in Ruabon, North Wales. The judges have now made their final decision, and the National Pub of the Year Award is coming to Greater Manchester.

In a press release announcing the win, CAMRA’s Pubs Director Julian Hough said:

“I would like to congratulate Simon, Heidi and all of the staff at The Baum on winning CAMRA’s national award. It is great to see a pub that offers consumers a fantastic range of quality drinks and also supports local businesses crowned National Pub of the Year. I would urge all pub lovers to visit The Baum and experience what a brilliant pub it is.”

Chairman of Rochdale, Oldham and Bury CAMRA and long-time beer blogger and Baum regular Tandleman (a.k.a. Peter Alexander) was the first the break the news at one-minute-past the press release embargo. He was also quoted in the press release:

“Clearly we are absolutely thrilled that the Baum has been chosen as CAMRA’s National Pub Of The Year. While we locally know how good a pub the Baum is, it is fantastic to have this confirmed by senior judges who have never visited it before. Given that the Baum was up against some tremendously fierce competition, Simon and Heidi have done a tremendous job. There is no higher accolade in pub awards and we in the local CAMRA branch are very proud to have Britain’s best pub in our area.”
